Weis Vineyards Tasting Room - Keuka Lake Wine Trail

Weis Vineyards has rapidly established itself as a powerhouse in the Finger Lakes, winning “Winery of the Year” in 2022, 2024, and 2025—an extraordinary feat for a winery that only opened its doors in 2017. Located along Keuka Lake, the winery blends German winemaking heritage with a deep understanding of the Finger Lakes' terroir. Founder Peter Weis, a sixth-generation winemaker from Mosel, Germany, brings Old World precision and elegance to each bottle.

Peter and his wife Ashlee transformed a former schoolhouse into a welcoming tasting room and have since added a modern barrel facility and a restored barn to accommodate their growing production and visitor base. Their wines, especially white varietals, have earned widespread acclaim for their clarity, structure, and mineral expression.

The 2025 New York Wine Classic highlighted Weis’s excellence across multiple categories. Their Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, Unoaked Chardonnay, and Dry Rosé all received best-in-class awards. These successes reflect Weis’s meticulous vineyard sourcing—working with 22 local growers—as well as their own estate vines at Day Road Vineyard.

Since its founding in 1998, the vineyard has been a trailblazer in sustainable and solar-powered winemaking. Their early adoption of wind and solar energy in 2009 made them the first East Coast winery to fully operate off the grid, setting a benchmark for environmentally conscious viticulture.

In 2025, Rose Hill achieved its most prestigious recognition yet at the New York Wine Classic, taking home the Governor’s Cup for Best Wine. Its award-winning 2019 Clarity Cabernet Sauvignon—a masterful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot—also claimed Best Red Wine and Best Cabernet Sauvignon. Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars - Best New York Riesling

Few names in New York winemaking carry the weight and history of Dr. Konstantin Frank. A true pioneer, Dr. Frank revolutionized East Coast viticulture in the 1950s by demonstrating that European vinifera grapes could thrive in the Finger Lakes using cold-hardy rootstocks. His work opened the door for quality winemaking in the region and helped establish Riesling as the Finger Lakes' signature grape.

Since its founding in 1962, Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars has remained family-run, with four generations preserving and enhancing his legacy. The winery is perched on the western slopes of Keuka Lake, and many of its original vineyards are still in production today. In 2025, their 2023 Reserve Riesling earned Best Overall Riesling and Best Medium Sweet Riesling at the New York Wine Classic, solidifying their place at the top of the state’s Riesling hierarchy.

The winery also excels in sparkling wines, thanks to the contributions of Dr. Frank’s son, Willy Frank, who introduced Méthode Champenoise production to their lineup. Their 2020 Blanc de Noirs and 2021 Brut earned gold medals, adding to their long list of accolades. Visitors can enjoy tastings that span the breadth of New York wine history—from the early days of vinifera planting to the innovation of world-class sparkling programs.

Ravines Wine Cellars

Best Cabernet Franc

Keuka Lake & Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes

Ravines Wine Cellars has been a driving force in redefining Finger Lakes wine since its founding in 2001 by Morten and Lisa Hallgren. Morten, a native of Provence, France, brought a European sensibility to the region—eschewing the dominant sweet wine styles of the time in favor of dry, structured wines that emphasize minerality and terroir. His experience in Bordeaux and training in Enology at Montpellier gave him the technical foundation to pursue world-class winemaking in upstate New York.

Launching their winery on the eastern slopes of Keuka Lake, the Hallgrens quickly gained attention with their Dry Riesling, which won Best in the World at the 2003 World Riesling Cup. Today, Ravines farms 130 acres across prime vineyard sites and continues to specialize in dry Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Bordeaux-style red blends.

The winery operates two acclaimed tasting rooms: one at their original Keuka Lake location and another in a restored barn at White Springs Vineyard on Seneca Lake. They offer immersive experiences, including wine-and-food pairings, barrel tastings, and vineyard tours, all rooted in a philosophy of elegance and site expression.

Keuka Lake Vineyards (KLV) is a boutique winery with a deep commitment to sustainability, authenticity, and terroir. Founded in 1992 by Mel and Dorothee Goldman on a former Taylor Wine Company site, the estate has grown to 40 acres of estate vineyards producing a mix of vinifera and hybrid varieties. Established in 1961, Johnson Estate Winery is New York’s oldest continuously operating estate winery. The winery’s historic barn tasting room, built from reclaimed timber, remains at the heart of its guest experience.

Frederick Spencer Johnson, the founder’s son, replanted the farm with wine grapes and secured one of New York’s earliest farm winery licenses. Now in its third generation, the winery is led by Fred and Jennifer Johnson, who have expanded vineyard acreage, introduced new varietals, and deepened the winery’s commitment to sustainability and quality.

In 2025, Johnson Estate won Best Red Hybrid Varietal for its Chambourcin and Best Pinot Noir for its Freelings Creek Reserve label. These honors, along with several gold medals, reflect the estate’s ability to produce exceptional wines from both hybrid and vinifera grapes.
