About Sheldrake PoinT Winery
Located on the western shore of Cayuga Lake, Sheldrake Point Winery is a Finger Lakes favorite known for its beautiful setting and distinctive, estate-grown wines. With a peaceful outdoor seating area—complete with Adirondack chairs, garden patios, and stunning lake views—it’s the perfect spot to sip and unwind.
Planted in 1997, Sheldrake Point’s estate vineyard spans 55 acres, with vines that slope gently eastward toward the lake between two scenic gorges. The site grows 10 grape varieties, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Gamay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Like nearby Seneca Lake, the depth of Cayuga Lake provides natural temperature moderation, reducing risks from early spring frost or late-season cold snaps. The vineyard’s diverse soils—gravelly loam, glacial clay, shale, limestone, and slate—add nuance and character to their wines.
Sheldrake is well-known for its award-winning Rieslings, Dry Rosé, and Ice Wines. Their Gamay Noir and Dry Rosé are must-haves at our Thanksgiving table every year. The rosé, in particular, has built a loyal following—it’s widely regarded as one of the best in the Finger Lakes and often sells out quickly. When conditions are right, their Ice Wines also shine, delivering lush, concentrated flavors that reflect the precision and patience of their winemaking.
In addition to its wine, Sheldrake Point recently launched the Garden Bistro, serving seasonal light fare, shareable snacks, and fresh flatbreads—perfect for casual pairings with a flight or glass. It adds another layer of comfort and charm to an already relaxing experience.
But perhaps the most unique feature? Their private boat dock. Boaters on Cayuga Lake can tie up at one of eight slips, walk just a few steps across the road, and enjoy a tasting or meal at the winery. It’s one of the few Finger Lakes wineries with this rare amenity. For an adventurous wine tour by water, you can even pair your stop with nearby Goose Watch Winery and Thirsty Owl Wine Company—all located within a scenic 15-mile stretch on the lake’s west side.
With its combination of great wine, tranquil lake views, and thoughtful amenities, Sheldrake Point is an essential stop on any Cayuga Lake wine trail itinerary.
