About Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard
Located on the west side of Seneca Lake, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is a cornerstone of Finger Lakes winemaking. Founded by German-born Hermann J. Wiemer, one of the first to plant vinifera grapes in the region, the winery quickly earned a reputation for producing world-class dry Rieslings. Today, while their portfolio has expanded to include a broad range of varietals and styles, their Riesling and sparkling wines continue to set the standard.
Guests can enjoy a traditional tasting or opt for the Riesling Deep Dive Flight, which includes five vintage bottlings—a unique way to explore the evolution and cellar aging of their flagship grape. For fans of sparkling wine, their Méthode Champenoise offerings, including the rare 10-Year Disgorgement cuvée, deliver richness and complexity from extended aging on the lees.
In 2007, Hermann passed leadership to winemaker Fred Merwarth, along with partners Oskar Bynke and Maressa Tosto-Merwarth. Under Fred’s guidance, Wiemer has helped elevate Finger Lakes sparkling wine to the global stage. In 2021, he became the first New York winemaker to win Wine Enthusiast’s Winemaker of the Year award, joining the ranks of industry icons.
Whether you're a Riesling purist, a sparkling enthusiast, or someone who values tradition with innovation, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is a must-visit on any Seneca Lake wine itinerary.
